'FLOW OF LIFE' exhibition at Digital Art House
Water cleans and takes away negativity. The exhibition is designed to immerse the visitor in a state of balance and to fill guests with new strength and readiness for wonderful achievements, as well as to lead to a conscious choice of a happy life.
Absolutely unlike anything else, the exposition is a combination of large art photographs, beautiful sculptures made of stacked glass, huge video projections, a specially selected aroma, and sound.
“Movement is something that characterizes water. Whether water takes the form of a river or the sea - it moves. Movement means life.”
About the artist
Jelena Belous is a young marine photographer from Riga. She has been engaged in photography for over five years.
Jelena approaches the movement of water in different ways, forming varied textures and patterns. Thus, in her photographs, water is transformed into abstract paintings.
From a family of seafarers, Jelena has been immersed in the marine environment since childhood. The water element has always been somewhat nearby. In search of her direction as a photo artist, she turned to childhood memories and feelings, thus finding her place in art.
Her artwork is often dedicated to the theme of nature, landscape, water and the human body. With the help of lines, forms and textures, the author conveys mood, state of mind, character, profound feelings and a deep connection with nature.
About the project
Depending on its form or chemical composition, water can heal and give life, or vice versa can destroy it.
A wave can be an all-absorbing tsunami, a salty ocean wave, or a light sea that discreetly touches the hem of your clothes. A wave can be entirely calm, practically invisible or a slight vibration on the surface of a fresh lake caused by the blowing of the wind. Each wave has its own personality and mood, unique and coherent, like each one of us. Waves are as different as human beings and the events of our lives, and as connected as every human being in the world.
Waves unfold in their course like a person’s life in a stream of feelings and events. These metaphors are infinite. The “Flow of Life” photo art project draws the parallel between the ocean and the human being perspectives. Through the captured movement of water, it reflects feelings, states, and situations of the observer's life.
Photo artworks are impulses for feelings and reflections.
The exhibition features 15 works from 2018 to 2020:
Searenity
2018, Spain
A state of peace and serenity. A feeling of confidence that everything is as it should be. You are strong, the rigors of life don’t impact you. You are the ocean – full of life, smooth, tempered, and balanced. You are the strong foundation that cannot be shaken. You’re water - there are no obstacles for you.
The day I took this photo, the ocean revealed its unconventional side. It was nearly motionless. It was the state of an impenetrable calmness. When you are at complete peace and safety in the midst of life’s unpredictable grandiosity.
Mask
2019, Latvia
We all wear different masks, and no one knows what is hidden beneath them. No one has walked in your shoes. No one can know what may lurk in another’s soul.
Sometimes, I meet people who assume they know me and judge a book by its cover, jump to conclusions, destined never to know me at all. Then there are those who are empathic and can read others instantly.
We all desire to be accepted as we are. But when colliding with the ‘surface’ of another person, rarely does anyone manage to see more than chaotic glimpses of expectations and projections.
Just like on this artwork, the glare of light dancing on the water surface in the form of a mask – it hides something deep in its depths.
Searching
2019, Latvia
I choose to see the light in every person and to embrace the good in them.
We are not aware of the experiences that drive someone’s actions, and what makes us the way that we are.
Each person has a soul - a light through which all of us can connect. And when we do - it enlightens our choices and guides us on our path.
I believe that our human vocation is to help people find the light within them, and the ability to see beauty. When you look at people with love, you touch their souls and this deep sense of unity makes your hearts to beat in unison.
Five States
2020, Spain
This artwork shows sequential states of the water.
These five forms, make up kind of a ring that closes the cycle. «This too shall pass»: is a wisdom that comes to mind.
There are five bands, five states which are about different things. From the general being, the wave comes out to us, then turns into foam, and then remains only a glare on the sand until it completely disappears.
The event seethes and comes at us, but everything changes, everything passes, and silence comes again. The cycle is closed.
Honesty
2020, Spain
How transparent and clear water is, that you can see the bottom.
The essence of sincere and good human relations is to be clear and transparent.
You decide how to treat the truth, only a lie deprives you of that choice. The lie is the thing that hurts when you find out about it.
Honesty means being brave and being able to accept myself as I am.
In Between
2019, Spain
The wave was almost imperceptible, it was challenging to catch its curl, its beautiful authentic effect.
Like the outer and inner world of a human being – ideas and feelings percolating invisible on the outside while he performs no action and does not manifest these metamorphoses. In Between is just about this state.
Maelstrom
2019, Latvia
I remember a period in my life where I was like a hamster on a wheel. I had no time to look away and felt like I was swamped in a never-ending list of things to do.
On one such day, when I found out that a very dear person was sick, I had an epiphany. I realized I was missing what was truly important. I began to make adjustments and reprioritize.
I realized that we ourselves create a maelstrom of our everyday life. It is us who start the cyclone: the choice is ours!
This photo reminds me of the need to stop, it helps me to assess whether I am in the right state. To reconsider what is important or what is truly valuable yet again.
Liquid Memory
2018, Spain
In terms of color, the three bands depict the enchanting cycle of life.
The blue represents anticipation. The white the bright path of life as a whole, full of pleasant events. A moment of bright, vibrant life, replete with achievements and happiness. The black is the black sand, as a symbol of the foundation of a person, true essence, core strength. Water shapes stone as our experiences shape our character. And white bands on black are continuation and subsequent possibilities.
The combination of the three bands determines our perception of reality.
The form of one’s life is moulded by how a previous interaction shapes our perspective which in turn shapes how we anticipate and experience each new event and opportunities.
Unclear
2019, Latvia
A situation, a feeling, or a person being the centre of our attention and absorbing our thoughts. For instance, we meet a person, and we have some premonition – a feeling that we cannot explain to ourselves because we have not been able to fully understand it yet.
Or when there is a question to which we are seeking an answer, that despite our best efforts and concentration, is still elusive. Perhaps we do not understand how to approach the situation.
The object in the centre of the photo represents these unclear questions or feelings.
Conseaquences
2020, Spain
This photo shows rings on the water that originate behind the scenes. The consequences are like a series of events that arose from what happened in the past.
This artwork is about responsibility for actions. Our choices and events always lead to the “rings in the water”. We don't always know what will happen, but it definitely will occur.
Therefore, it is important to make decisions consciously. And make the choice so that your "rings" bring the pleasure of contemplation.
Illusion
2019, Spain
Each person’s life is coloured by their own experiences. A personal sense of perception determines our reality. This way we fill our life with meanings, each with his or her own.
In this artwork, you may see an area of the wave consisting of abstract images. Some may see a resemblance to animals, some might see clouds of smoke. The illusions that different people see astonish me.
This image of illusion leads me to believe that being true to oneself is the best choice. In the end you realize that it is just a wave! And our imagination drives us to give meaning to certain events.
Meditation
2020, Spain
The optical focus in this artwork is on the foam of calm water. At the center of serenity in the middle of the turbulent sea.
Meditation helps us to stay under the dome of tranquility in the midst of seething life, noise, or events. And to accept the world as it is, consciously choosing where to direct your own attention.
This artwork is a reminder to keep oneself in this state of balance, and not only in the meditation process itself.
Patience
2018, Spain
Sometimes nature can seem imperfect and cause some discomfort, and yet mother nature is always perfect with her authenticity.
The meaning of life seems to be rooted in contrasting difficult situations and their wonderful consequences. It is important to accept whatever happens.
The state conveyed by this image is connected with a long and beautiful story:
In the summer of 2019, a friend and I took to the coast, hoping to photograph the water. As we sat by the pier near the lighthouse taking on this gorgeous summer’s day, out of nowhere, we saw a wall of rain and a thunderstorm coming towards us from the city. Overtaken by fear, we rushed to the car to take cover but didn’t make it in time. As I stood dripping wet, the weather changed and I saw a small rainbow appear right under my feet and another big one in the sky. It’s impossible to convey my feelings. A mere moment ago, I feared being struck by lightning and now I’m overwhelmed by a childish innocence and joy as I try to jump on the rainbow.
As the rain receded, we walked to the lighthouse when once again we were engulfed by such rain as I had never encountered in my entire life. Without shelter, we were soaked to the bone, I experienced an incredibly satisfying sensation of adrenaline and euphoria – lightning, thunder, and the water wall around us.
And as soon as it started it seemed to pass with dark clouds dissipating, ships appearing on the horizon and the sun’s rays peeking out again as four beautiful swans majestically swam towards us. At that moment, it dawned on me how the most amazing things can happen in chance encounters when you can live in the moment and be present enough to enjoy them.
Patience is about that experience - the imperfection and beauty, the mystery of nature. I turned the photo upside down to show that not everything is as obvious as it seems. A thunderstorm can be scary, but when it passes, as it must, who knows what splendours await us on the other side.
Seaquence
2019, SpainA sequence is a melodic repetition of the same theme with slight variations.
Our world is a sequence. The Earth spins every day with small alterations to its location in our solar system. The waves in this photo symbolize this rhythm of life and look like a picture of a musical wave.
Each person is like a melody playing its own sequence as each of our experiences slightly amends us. We repeat ourselves consistently, but already at the next level, a pitch higher.
Extremely diverse musical combinations can be met in life like house and classical music, rock and opera. Just as people can be totally different when together.
There are two rows in the photo: one wave, followed by another. These are two people: each of them with their own sequence, though they share the same room. They complement each other. And, like waves, they play in unison.
Embrace
2020, Spain
As we build relationships, we become familiar with the other person, tied by shared experiences, forever connected in thoughts and memories. When we are apart, feelings of eager anticipation grow and when the moment of sweet embrace finally arrives, the connection intensifies.
The two parts of the photo are two people. One wave is out of focus because we do not fully know what the other person is feeling at that moment, but still our world’s meet.
I felt this state especially vividly in the beginning of the pandemic, back in 2020. Once when I was to travel to London to visit some old friends, and again when I was to fly to my mother's birthday. Things didn’t go as planned and I live in anticipation of our next rendezvous.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everything that one perceives is a reflection of themselves.”
About Ernest Vitin
Layered, aka stacked glass sculpture, is the only artistic medium with so many similar properties to water. Like water, it sometimes flickers and reflects the light, drawing attention to the active interaction of light and matter on its surface, while at other times, it reveals a clear picture of what lies within.
Ernest Vitin is one of the few artists in the world who professionally work with monumental layered glass sculpture. His sculpture "Effigie Sui" was selected and included at the London Art Biennale in 2021.
In 2019, the artist received the national award "Kilograms Kultūras" in the visual art category for his solo exhibition "Glass Labyrinth". Designers' Union Design Award 2017.
His 22-ton architectural glass sculpture "Nature" is the largest hand-made contemporary work of glass art in the Baltics.
Ernest Vitin's works have travelled to different countries worldwide - the USA, Russia, Germany, Malta, Japan, etc. He enjoys both artistic and technical challenges, and together with his team of specialists, he is working on ever new projects. Ernest is also the founder of Glasstone memorial sculptures.

Caleo
2016
Caleo, translated from Latin, means flame. It is the flame in each of us. The element of fire in humans and the world. Consciousness. The sharpness of perception. The initiator of action. Fire and water are inseparable opposites — two essential elements in the rhythm of life. Every water molecule possesses energy - fire; in turn, the energy manifests itself in an experiential motion made possible by a water element.
Technically, it is made using 8 mm selective glass of different shades with a special precious metal coating. The choice of this technical solution allows the glass to deflect a much wider range of colours while maintaining a certain tonal discretion.
Technique: layered glass | 110 x 36 x 22 cm
